Studio: Bünda, in West Hollywood (8231 W Third Street, Suite C, Los Angeles CA 90048)
Class we took: Total Body
Length: 50 minutes
Type of workout: Strength training (1/2 Stairmaster, 1/2 targeted resistance training)
Our rating (1-5): 4
Parking: Parking lot available on Harper. Free with validation for 75 minutes. There are also metered spots available.
Shower/Lockers: There are cubbies in studio.
Towels: They give you 2 towels – 1 to use for your face/body and 1 to wipe down the equipment.
Water: Water is available for purchase. There is a water refill station.
Difficulty (1-5): 4. It’s gotten way harder. Your heart rate will definitely be up after the Stairmaster rounds. You can push yourself on those and get to 10+ levels especially on the last push.
Sweatiness (1-5): 4. You’ll definitely work up a sweat. The Stairmaster is NOT easy. But we weren’t completely drenched like we usually are after SoulCycle or Barry’s.
Recommended for beginners?: Definitely! You can take everything at your own pace. With the weights, you can choose a lighter set to make sure you can do all the reps with good form. With the Stairmaster, you can choose which level you want to work at.
What to expect
You’ll spend half the time on the floor with weights and bands and half the time on the Stairmaster. It’s similar to the class structure of Barry’s Bootcamp, but that’s where the comparison ends. Don’t expect a bootcamp style class! You’ll do one round at one station then switch. (Remember to look for your station number!) We did 6 rounds total last time we went, 3 on the floor and 3 on the Stairmaster. As the rounds progress, each round gets harder.
Unlike other classes where you do your floor work for time, at Bünda, you do each movement for number of reps. It’s about working smarter not harder, so you won’t be working to fatigue your muscles for the sake of fatiguing them. While there are weights at your station, they are on the lighter side. There are heavier sets of weights available on the sides of the room. Pick a weight that challenges you! We definitely picked a weight that was too light at first. So listen to your instructor!
With the Stairmaster, the instructor will coach you through the different levels and movements (i.e. regular, skip a step, catwalk, sidestep). They won’t tell you to be a certain level each time, but instead they’ll give you a range where to start and tell you to how many levels to add or remove. But don’t worry, your heart rate will be HIGH.
Other
If you’ve been to Bünda before when they first opened, the format of the classes has changed and gotten significantly harder, so definitely check it out again!
Plus they have a super cute set-up in the lobby, which is perfect for an Instagram photo. They also have a neon peach sign near the bathroom, which is also highly Instagrammable.
