DIY Peloton

If you want a Peloton bike or a SoulCycle at Home bike but don’t want to spend over $2000 on it, here’s a way to make a DIY Peloton bike at home for under $500!

Spin bike

You can find a spin bike on Amazon ranging anywhere from $200 to $1500. We picked the L NOW spin bike, which is a light commercial bike, for $275. But you could also find used commercial bikes on sites like Craigslist.

While this spin bike isn’t the best and definitely not like a Peloton or SoulCycle spin bike, it does the job! Plus we like that it’s very compact, so it works great for our parents to use the bike as well.

Tablet holder

You’ll also need a tablet holder for your tablet or phone. Our L NOW bike came with a tablet holder, but you can find one to put onto your bike for about $15.

Yoga mat

We put our bike on top of a yoga mat to prevent damage to the floor. It also helps with making sure the floor is even. Any yoga mat will work. We found one on Amazon for about $25.

Peloton or Variis App

You can sign up for the Peloton or Variis (SoulCycle) app to stream on-demand and live classes. The Peloton app is $12.99/month. It also comes with access to all of its other classes like stretching, yoga, bootcamp, strength, outdoor, and cardio.

If you prefer SoulCycle, the Variis app is free for Equinox members. You can sign up to the on the list for when it launches for full access to everyone. It will give you access to Equinox classes, SoulCycle, PURE Yoga, Precision Run, Myodetox, and Headstrong.

You can also choose any other app like AARMY, which has cycle and bootcamp classes. It’s $35/month and created by Akin Akman and Angela Davis, NYC and LA’s top group fitness instructors.

Dual bike pedals

If you prefer to spin with spin shoes, you can purchase dual bike pedals. We purchased ones for SPD cleats and a cage on the other side, so we could use the bike with our spin shoes or our sneakers.

Optional: Cadence monitor or HRM

If you want to keep in line with the Peloton style of riding, you can also purchase a cadence monitor and/or heart rate monitor. We chose not to because we prefer riding to the beat of the music like in SoulCycle.
