Health and Wellness at Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana

Health and wellness are not the first things that pop into your head when you think of all-inclusive resorts. We’ve both been to several all-inclusive resorts, and each of those trips involved a little too much indulgence in unhealthy food and drinks.

However, our recent trip to the new, family-friendly Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic was the opposite of the typical, all-inclusive experience. We were amazed by all of the wellness options, from the state-of-the-art 14,000 sq. ft. fitness center to all of the healthy dishes at their restaurants. The resort sits on the same development as its adults-only resort, Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana, so we were able to enjoy restaurants and amenities shared across both resorts.

Fitness

Working out is not typically a top priority when we go to all-inclusive resorts since the gyms are usually tiny with outdated equipment.

The fitness center at Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana is not only one of the biggest we’ve seen at a hotel, but it also had everything we could imagine! There are different rooms for cardio, weightlifting, CrossFit, yoga and more! There were even boxing bags and TRX straps. Even though there were a lot of people at the gym, it never felt crowded.

The best part about the fitness center is that there’s always a trainer on-site! The trainer can create a workout for you or explain how to use any of the equipment. Our trainer, Junior, put together a quick circuit for us, and we were sweating in just a few minutes. It was a short but very effective workout.

If you want some fresh air and sun, there are plenty of outdoor fitness classes to choose from. One of the classes we were most excited to try was the Aqua Spin class. We’re avid spinners and loved the upbeat music and energy level of the instructor.

If high-intensity workouts like spin aren’t up your alley, meditation classes and yoga classes by the beach are also available. There are options available for everyone!

Food

At most all-inclusive resorts, it’s hard to find healthy options. You’ll see typical options like greasy burgers and pizzas, but dining at Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana didn’t feel like your regular all-inclusive because of the quality,  taste and unlimited options no matter your dietary preference.

One of Grace’s goals this year is to eat more plant-based, so we loved all the options available at the restaurants. Gluten-free, Vegan, Paleo, and Keto items are marked with a symbol and easily identifiable.

Our first meal of the trip was breakfast at Chinola with fresh green juice and a gorgeous view of the ocean. The meal was so good that we had to go back for lunch the next day.

Here are some of our favorite restaurant options from the resort:

  • Chinola – Our favorite restaurant on the resort! The Vegan Wrap and Keto French Toast are a must for breakfast. The Fresh Steamed Fish and Avocado Salad are perfect for lunch and won’t leave you feeling heavy.
  • El Mercado – The buffet at Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana has endless healthy options. We stopped in whenever we wanted some fruits or juices.
  • Tempest Table – There’s two dining options at Tempest Table: Mongolian grill or teppanyaki tables. We chose Mongolian grill and loved being able to customize our stir fry with different types of vegetables and meats.
  • Brandos – We had dinner at this French Polynesian restaurant on our first night. We mainly ordered seafood, and everything was so fresh!
  • Navigator Grill – A great spot to pop in for lunch after lounging by the pool. They had so many delicious Caribbean dishes.

Self-Care

As much as we love to work out and have healthy meals, we like to maintain a balance. Vacations are the perfect time to indulge in self-care and fun. We laid out at the infinity pools, had drinks at the swim-up bars, and enjoyed the white sand beaches.

We usually stay away from cocktails but tried some at the restaurants and pools. They were all delicious and made from fresh ingredients. Our favorite was the Runner Rabbit from Chinola, which had vodka, carrot juice, ginger, and pineapple.

We loved that the beach was just a few steps from the pool. There’s even a dock where you can sit and enjoy the view or jump off!

We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana and can’t wait to plan another trip soon!
