Recommended for beginners?
Not really. We would recommend taking a few megaformer classes first. Lagree Fitness Studio offers them (but they’re 50 minutes), or there are a lot of other pilates studios in LA that use a megaformer.
While you can take a supra class on the supraformer (basically a megaformer, but it moves up and down and side to side) if you’re a beginner, it’s just easier to have taken a few regular classes before, so you know the moves. The class moves fast because it’s only 25 minutes, so it’s hard to quickly transition to the next move if you don’t know it.
Recommended Instructors
We loved Jenny Brian’s class. She was tough but very helpful and hands-on. She repeatedly adjusted both of our forms, which we definitely needed since we hadn’t taken a pilates class in forever. AND she would tell us to drop back into our squats when we came out of it.
Also if you’re feeling super strong, take Brian Evan’s class. He is INSANELY TOUGH. Like…you really will be holding on for dear life, trying not to fall off the supraformer as he moves it up and down and side to side like crazyyy. He’s also very tough and will yell at you get back up. BUT you’ll feel amazing after. You’ll be completely drenched in sweat and so sore in just the 25 minutes.
What to expect
If you’ve taken a megaformer class before, you already know how difficult it is. With the supraformer, imagine a megaformer class, but it moves up and down and side to side. It’s like a roller coaster. You have to really engage your core, so you don’t fall off!
If you haven’t taken a megaformer class before, the supraformer class is basically pilates on crack and steroids and every other drug out there. (Yes, we’re dramatic…) In 25 minutes, you’ll definitely be drenched in sweat and shaking. It literally gets every part of your body – upper, lower, core. We LOVE doing inner thigh on it because it seriously burns. And the core work is NO JOKE. It’s so hard, but you know you’ll be carving out the abs FAST if you stick to it.
Some people usually think of pilates as “easy” compared to other HIIT or strength classes. But you will definitely NOT be saying that here. You are really building your muscle with all the resistance added with the springs.
Other
Bring your own sticky / grip socks, or be prepared to buy some at the studio! Without them, you won’t be allowed to take class.
Also we would recommend bringing your own towel and water (there is a water refill station). We also like to wear gloves since our hands get sweaty (LOL) and we feel ourselves slipping as we hold onto the reformer. We’ve linked the ones we love below!

That equipment is crazy cool! I haven’t heard of either class, but am really curious. Thanks for sharing about these.
